Position Summary

The Volun teer Engagement Student will join the Volunteer Coordinator in supporting the organization by managing volunteers for Pride 2023; developing and implementing outreach strategies; developing and delivering trainings for volunteers; developing resources and educational materials; and supporting during the Pride festival as needed.

What You’ll Get To Do:

Pride 2023

  • Support the recruitment, management, scheduling, and supervision of volunteers during Pride events.
  • Develop and deliver volunteer training and orientation sessions in preparation for Pride.
  • Provide support during Pride events throughout May and June.

Ambassador

  • Support in the development of a youth and staff ambassador program.
  • Recruit and train potential ambassadors.
  • Engage with community partners and volunteers to support the professional development of youth and staff.
  • Explore additional opportunities for community and corporate collaboration.

Partnerships

  • Assist the development and implementation of an outreach strategy and outreach projects.
  • Assist in educational recruitment with local colleges and universities such as scheduling career fairs and/or info sessions, as well as researching and organizing student community groups.
  • Supporting in the development of corporate volunteer programming.
  • Prepare and review materials for educational presentations.

 

What You’ll Bring:

  • Currently e nrolled in an accredited co-op or internship program such as event management , no n-profit management , or other relevant programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to multi-task in a busy environment, to work well under the pressure of deadlines, and to prioritize tasks appropriately while meeting time sensitive demands.
  • Highly professional and articulate with sensitivity, discretion, and an appropriate demeanor.
  • Knowledge or lived experience with the diversity of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
  • Experience working with a diverse team and promoting a positive brand image.
  • Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  • Experience working for a social service/mental health/or housing non-profit considered an asset.

Additional Requirements

  • Satisfactory clearance under the Vulnerable Sector Police Check Program.
  • Must be qualified to legally work in Canada.
  • Willing to work onsite at our Friends of Ruby office located in downtown Toronto.
  • Willing to work on a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the organization, working evenings on occasions.
  • Ability to travel to other community-based settings as needed.
