Minimum Requirements:

  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering program at an accredited post-secondary institution
  • You must be returning to full-time studies after the work term
  • Please attach your most recent transcripts with your application
  • Strong computer skills including familiarity with Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • For some roles you may need to possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a familiarity with various types of mechanical equipment within Suncor’s operations, and the codes and standards which govern their design and operation, including: piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, fired heaters, pumps, compressors, material handling equipment, and mining equipment
  • Develop tools for tracking reliability, inspection and operating information
  • Support engineering and maintenance teams in responding to day to day operational issues, and development repair scopes and work plans for modification of equipment
  • Provide technical support to capital projects and maintenance engineering through the design and execution phases, including producing and reviewing engineering deliverables, construction support.
  • Support creation and update of engineering documents such as drawings, datasheets, technical specifications and standards.
  • Support field inspection activities
  • Prepare and present summary reports, performance metrics reports, graphical representation, data analysis and presentations, as required
  • Apply Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and troubleshooting methods to resolve operating equipment challenges

 

Location and other Key Details:

  • This is a 4, 8, 12 or 16-month work term starting in May 2025. You will be asked to indicate your availability in your application
  • Potential locations include Calgary, Fort McMurray (Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo), Edmonton Refinery or our Oakville office, located at 3275 Rebecca Street
  • Relocation assistance will be provided if required
  • Students who live and work in Fort McMurray are eligible for a cash allowance to address the cost of living and the remote challenges associated with the region
