Job Description:

Reporting to the Manager of Community and Student Affairs at the Pembroke Campus, the incumbent plays an essential role in ensuring the quality of paid co-op experiences as well as the quantity of them available.

 

The incumbent assists co-op students in preparing for the world of work by guiding them through resume and cover letter work-sessions, interview preparation, self-directed job search, etc. This support can take the form of one-on-one coaching or group sessions in-person, or online. The Incumbent continues to support the students through their work term by conducting site visits and any required individualized follow-up with the employer or student.

 

There is a strong emphasis on development of new employer relationships and servicing and growing existing ones. The incumbent markets the co-op programs which must result in securing and maintaining sufficient and appropriate paid, program-related employment opportunities for college students participating in co-op programs and providing support to students and employers in the work place.

 

The incumbent works in close collaboration with other members of the co-op team, faculty, administrators, and external stakeholders.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides guidance, direction and support to students participating in Cooperative Education programs;
  • Secures program-related, paid employment opportunities for Algonquin College students enrolled in Cooperative Education programs, through proactive marketing and sales activity;
  • Contributes to the efficient operation of the Cooperative Education department, through the provision of the following services.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum two (2) year diploma or equivalent in Business, Marketing, Public Relations, Career Development, Human Resources, or related to the programs-of-study served by the cooperative education department;
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in a business or educational environment related to recruiting employers and job development;
  • Working directly with job seekers, preferably post-secondary students, in the field of career preparedness and employability skills development;
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain internal and external relationships resulting in new and growing employment opportunities for post-secondary students;
  • Co-op experience at a Post-secondary institution is preferred.

 

Anticipated Weekly Schedule:

  • Monday – Thursday, 6 hours/day
