Job Summary

The role will entail directly supporting the front office Securities Lending desk whom is responsible for market execution with borrowers, maximizing profitability within the existing products and identifying revenue opportunities for our lending clients. The Intern will be involved in the day-to-day dealings with operations and front office personnel developing a thorough understanding and appreciation of the role Securities Lending plays in the financial industry

Job Description

BAU responsibilities

  • Monitoring the daily recall process with borrowers and escalating any issues to the traders while working with the Service Delivery team in ensuring client sales are covered
  • Monitor term report to ensure we are onside, and escalating to SL desk if there is a term loan shortfall with clients & borrowers
  • Update the daily Pricing file (data file from IHS Markit) before market open
  • Prepare daily push lists for both fixed income and equities prior to market open
  • Produce ad hoc reports via Access database for analysis and revenue opportunities
  • Agree new loan transactions with approved borrowers within the boundaries of our legal agreements and approved credit limits and policies
  • Run re-rate tool and negotiate pricing on existing loans
  • Investigate and resolved any trade discrepancies and contract compare breaks
  • Review specials lists and help mine our custody clients assets listing for revenue opportunities

Project Work

  • Create weekly/bi-weekly recap of outliers in order to help target borrowers or specific asset classes and identify trends
  • Help to create efficiencies and streamline our processes including automating our inventory push lists
  • Collating competitor insights and information
  • Supporting SL Lender and Product Management with projects the business deems as a priority

Learning and Development opportunities

  • Further understanding of financial markets, trading strategies and the securities lending industry
  • This role crosses paths with many other areas of RBC IS; Client operations, Client Coverage, Collateral and mid-office support groups where additional experience can be gained.

  • Solid understanding of economic concepts with ability to learn applied financial concepts on the role
