Summer Student Emergency Management and Business Continuity

Reporting to the Manager of Crisis Preparedness and Business Continuity, the Emergency Management and Business Continuity Summer Student will support CPKC’s ability to prepare for and respond to a wide variety of emergency incidents across the CPKC network. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the fields of emergency management, business continuity, and rail transportation.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assist in the management of corporate crisis preparedness and business continuity programs
  • Assist in updating and maintaining corporate crisis preparedness and business continuity plans
  • Support in the planning and execution of training and exercise programs designed to enhance corporate emergency preparedness
  • Assist in the maintenance and readiness of the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) and Business Continuity Facilities
  • Actively participate in the EOC and Business Continuity Facilities during periods of activation with 24/7 availability
  • Assist with the development and completion of After-Action Reports and Improvement Plans
  • Contribute to the development and revision of emergency management and business continuity content within SharePoint

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Recently graduated, returning, or currently enrolled in a diploma or degree program in Emergency Management, Business Continuity, or a related field
  • Ability and enthusiasm for learning new skill sets
  • Possess a high level of attention to detail
  • Ability to collaborate and build effective working relationships
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Previous experience in emergency management or business continuity will be considered an asset
  • An understanding of weather and natural hazards will be considered an asset.

The successful candidate will need to successfully complete the following clearances:

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
