Job Summary
This position is within the City Planning Strategies Division of the City of Mississauga, Planning and Building Department. The City Planning Strategies Division is responsible for the City’s long-range land use planning and the maintenance of databases supporting this function.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate(s) will be representing the City of Mississauga performing the following functions:
- Assist with the annual employment survey – a survey of over 27,000 businesses
- Conduct telephone and face to face surveys to acquire employment and business information
- Perform field verifications using ESRI Field Maps
- Assist with e-mail questionnaires and updating the employment databases
- Assist Policy Planners with special projects, updating existing land use inventories, as well as land use field reviews
- Participate in divisional meetings and attend Planning and Development Committee and Council meetings in order to gain an understanding of the municipal planning function
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
- Currently enrolled at University in a job-related program in urban planning, geography or a related field is also required
- Excellent communication skills are essential
- Strong computer skills with data entry and large databases, preferably in a municipal environment
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, ArcView (or GeoMedia), and Google Earth would be a definite asset, knowledge of popular internet search engines and mapping tools are also an asset
- Experience working in a team environment is required.
- *Position requires access to a car, minimum class “G” driver’s licence and driving record that is acceptable to the City
