Position Overview:
The Upper School at UCC is inviting applications for a dynamic Teaching Intern (TI) who demonstrates
a high degree of cultural competence. The UCC TI program is a wonderful opportunity for new teachers
to develop experience in the classroom, be mentored by outstanding seasoned faculty members, and
have phenomenal exposure to a top-quality educational experience. You will provide instruction and
classroom support to a diverse range of students across the Upper School and meaningfully engage in
the College’s co-curricular program, including athletic coaching as needed. You may also provide supply
coverage to Upper School teachers. A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teachers and
students is essential, particularly with students from a diverse range of ethno-cultural and socio-economic
backgrounds.
Duties and Responsibilities:
● Lead various learning opportunities for students including teaching a General Learning Skills
course and potentially other subjects;
● Be involved in curriculum development;
● Support students individually and in small groups;
● Participate in faculty and professional meetings, assemblies and various professional
development opportunities;
● Perform supervisory duties;
● On-call substitute teacher;
● Assist with field trips;
● Lead with skill, passion, and enthusiasm in identified activities in our vast co-curricular program,
including athletics, the arts, clubs and publications; and
● Actively participate in the life of the school including, but not limited to graduation, school dances
and other extracurricular community events as required.
Knowledge, Competencies and Experience:
● Bachelor/Masters degree;
● Bachelor of Education; or equivalent teaching certification;
● Demonstrated ability to employ a wide variety of teaching techniques including utilization of
technology;
● Ability to recognize individual learning styles and the characteristics of learners;
● Displays humility and empathy, and recognizes their ability to positively influence change.
