Survey Research Analyst

Reporting to the Manager of Research, the Survey Research Analyst contributes to the evidence base available to executive decision makers to make high-stakes decisions by leading the design, implementation and reporting of major department surveys critical to the Department’s knowledge base.
The Survey Research Analyst will lead survey projects that are primarily conducted through external contracts.
As such, this position involves contract management activities in addition to applying subject matter and technical expertise and judgment to determine the best approach and methodology to respond to research questions, ensuring alignment with other survey instruments and best practices.
The Survey Research Analyst is also responsible for developing, leading, and managing qualitative research projects that include focus groups, interviews, text analysis, and analysis of unstructured qualitative data.
The role of Survey Research Analyst actions the following tasks:
Leads major Department surveys such as the Graduate Outcomes Survey, Employment Success Survey, Student (CUSC) survey, Student Aid Client Satisfaction Survey, and Apprenticeship Education Survey; oversee survey projects’ operation, coordination, analysis and reporting.
Conducts complex analysis of survey results to support and influence strategic policy and program development.
Initiates strategic research activities through various available datasets including responding to data requests from both internal and external areas.
Develops Request for Proposals and Services (RFP/RFS) related to survey activities, outlining expected sampling and weighting methodologies, data collection and data validation techniques, services and reporting expectations, deliverables, timelines and costs in alignment with business and ministry needs.
Oversees and conduct data quality and verification checks to ensure accuracy and quality.
The role of Survey Research Analyst actions the following tasks continued:
Develops and applies advanced methodologies to calculate indicators and measures that are practical and appropriate for various types of institutions, student populations and industry.
Where necessary, leads the development of new data sources to address data gaps related to potential indicators.
Interprets results of the analysis in relation, and responding, to the original research/data question; Assesses the benefits and risks of various quantitative and qualitative approaches.
Designs and oversees research projects of broad corporate benefit.
This involves collaborating with program areas within the Ministry at senior levels to ensure corporate information needs are identified and met in a collaborative and inclusive manner.
Provides research advisory services to Unit and program areas regarding research methodologies, data limitations and sources. Advise research and program areas on long-term approaches and strategies.
Develops an in-depth familiarity of data related to post-secondary education, including apprenticeship and student funding, within Canada and internationally (e.g., Reports on, and validate, provincial data for federal and/or inter-jurisdictional comparisons (e.g., build knowledge and understanding of methodologies, meta data, and differences in collection and reporting between provinces and territories.
A University graduation in a related field plus four (4) years progressively responsible related experience. This permanent position is located in Edmonton and works 36.25 hours per week, 8:15am – 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.
