Position Summary
We are looking for a Production Intern to join us for 3-month period, starting in May 2024.
This position will be based out of our Portage la Prairie, Manitoba location.
McCain Portage la Prairie is looking for a student to work within our Production department, assisting in the maintenance of ongoing programs and initiatives, as well as leading identified projects.
The Team
This position will report to the Production Manger and work alongside a team of 3 Shift Managers, 8 Shift Supervisors as well as various area experts. This role will also work cross-functionally with the Safety, Quality and Engineering Departments.
What You Will Be Working On
• Work with operations teams to meet targets for safety, quality, and production
• Work with a diverse group of cross – functional areas such as safety, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and operations
• Manage the people, the process and the input / product aspects of a situation to implement a solution.
• Learn important aspects of project management such as project scheduling, cost estimating, cost control, and risk management
• Supporting various programs within the department, including supporting initiatives, managing special projects and day-to-day tasks
• Assisting in the development and roll-out of programs, policies, processes and procedures
• Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, to ensure effective processes are in place, and provides safety expertise to help facilitate business processes and decisions
What You Will Learn
• Learn about food safety and the requirements for production
• Gain an understanding of the plant, process and equipment by working with a diverse group of functional areas on such projects as efficiency issues, working with contractors, energy – related process improvements, and plant process and equipment improvements.
What You Need to be Successful
• Pursuing Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance, Economics, or related discipline
• Must have exceptional analytical skills and be able to work with complex data.
• Detail oriented with the ability to work with speed and accuracy.
• Must be a self-motivated, analytical, and independent thinker.
• Results focused. Bias towards action, able to synthesize multiple pieces of information and act decisively.
• Effective communication skills (both oral and written) with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
• Excellent problem solving, organization and planning skills.
• High proficiency in tools used for data analysis. Excel is a must; Access a plus.
