AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated
Wastewater Process/Automation Engineer Intern for employment in the
Thornhill, ON office, to support both the Process group and the Automation group. The Water Division of AECOM is actively growing its municipal water engineering practice. This is opening up challenging career opportunities for university students who are excited about kick-starting their career. The successful candidate(s) will join our team as a supporting project engineer for the design of expansions or upgrades to pumping stations, water and wastewater treatment plants.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks related to municipal wastewater treatment and automation design and construction administration activities.
Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
Work under supervision of a project manager, contract administrator, and/or senior-level team member.

Participate in wastewater engineering, process and automation design activities including preparation of design calculations, equipment sizing and selection, process layouts, engineering specifications, and cost estimates.
Prepare CAD drawings such as P&IDs, process piping, control panel, and network drawings.
Equipment selection and liaison with equipment suppliers and vendors.
Review of quantity and cost estimates for completeness and accuracy.
Participate in contract administration services during the construction of wastewater infrastructure and facilities.
Perform municipal wastewater treatment plant site investigations, data collection, and analysis activities.
Prepare technical memoranda, contribute to preliminary and detailed design reports.
Prepare permitting applications for local regulatory agencies.
Work collaboratively on multidisciplinary design teams and assist with coordination tasks.

Looking for Candidates Who:
Minimum Requirements:

Currently completing a Bachelor of Engineering (or Bachelor of Science in Engineering) degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental, Mechatronics, Systems Design or equivalent.
Intern 1 – completion of first year of qualified study
Driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:
Proficient in the use of desktop computational tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, etc.
Strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.
Strong technical report writing skills.
Able to organize workload and multiple project deadlines.

Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and MicroStation).
Previous work experience in the field of municipal wastewater is an asset.
