Job Description

The Fundamental Investments Summer Program is a four-month summer placement for interns in their penultimate year of study. You will join us as a Senior Intern Analyst for the Summer of 2024 in either one of these four departments: Active Equities, Credit Investments, and Real Assets. During the recruitment process you will be considered for all departments, however, you will complete the summer internship in one of them.

Upon completion of your term, you will be considered for the Full Time Rotational Program.

The summer program begins with a week-long Intern Orientation for you to engage with fellow Interns and learn about the resources and programs available to you. We offer company-wide departmental overviews for you to explore more about what we do at CPP Investments and give you the opportunity to gain exposure to senior leadership across the firm. You will quickly advance your knowledge and expertise through skills-based training and stimulating on-the-job assignments. You will participate in additional summer programming such as our Intern Case Competition and our Speaker Series where each session focuses on a different aspect of our culture including Employee Resource Groups, Inclusion & Diversity and much more. What you will do

Your responsibilities will vary based on your assigned team.
• Analyze and evaluate a variety of industries, companies and securities including the analysis of management teams
• Perform valuation analysis of companies, assets and/or securities
• Perform due diligence on assets and/or companies including financial performance, quality of management team, expected merits and risks, market and industry dynamics, and expected returns
• Build financial models to analyze investment opportunities
• Assist in the investment decision-making process; provides support and input into the making and managing of investments around the world
• Prepare analytical investment reviews and recommendations in collaboration with the team, including industry/market overviews, writing investment rationales and due diligence reviews
• Explore investment opportunities in geographic markets including the Americas, Europe, and/or Asia
• Apply statistical and qualitative analysis to support investment decisions
• Research, analyze and report on macro level trends
• Develop and maintain new information sources (proprietary and other)

Overview of Participating Groups

Active Equities
• Active Equities North America: Focuses to deliver alpha in the North American public equity markets. Leverages their structural competitive advantages and developed sources of edge to exploit alpha opportunities through propriety company specific fundamental research. Focuses on fundamental insights to yield a collection of high-conviction, single-company investments into a highly concentrated long/short, market-neutral portfolio.

Credit Investments
• Americas Leveraged Finance: Focuses on direct primary and secondary investments in leveraged loans, high yield bonds, mezzanine, preferred equity and other solutions across the capital structure in North America and Latin America.
• Strategic Credit: Responsible for high-yield investments in portfolios of credit and credit-like assets, as well as corporate credit investments in specialty finance companies and other financials.

Real Assets
• Infrastructure: Direct investments in large- scale infrastructure assets globally, typically in the regulated networks (electric, water, gas utilities), transport (roads, ports, airports, rails), and communication and energy sectors.
• Sustainable Energies: Focuses on evolution of the energy industry and growth in sustainable energy- market, with significant, flexible capital to leverage our combined thought leadership on tomorrow’s energy ecosystem.

Candidates in an undergraduate program that will be returning to school in the Fall of 2024 are eligible to apply. We look for candidates with a strong track record of academic success while balancing extracurricular activities, a strong skill-set in thought leadership and relationship building skills, financial modeling, valuation and analytics, as well as good communication. In addition, the most successful candidates often combine energy, enthusiasm, and intellectual curiosity, with demonstrated interest in investing.
