Title: Power and Control Engineering Co-op Student

Position Summary:

Hatch is seeking a Power and Control Engineering Co-op Student to join our team for a 16 month internship starting in May 2025.In this role, you will support projects globally working from our Mississauga Head Office. Our group is comprised of Engineers from many disciplines, who work together to develop solutions to enhance technologies such as electric arc furnace control, novel instrumentation, coating mass controllers, power stabilization and microgrid controllers.

Responsibilities:

In this role you will work primarily in the Power and Control fields and interact with engineers from all disciplines, in a team environment.

Daily tasks would vary based on the current project, but responsibilities could include:

  • Perform calculations, simulations, and modelling of systems and processes for active projects.
  • Programming automation systems.
  • Evaluate new technology designs.
  • Analyze system data collected from client sites.
  • Specify system component requirements and perform research on commercially available equipment.
  • Assist with R&D of new technologies and applications for real clients with real needs.
  • Actively participate in the creation of technical and business reports and presentations for clients.

Education and Experience: 

  • Must be enrolled in Controls, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering, Engineering Physics or a related program.
  • Preferred academic courses include: Controls, Electronics, System Modeling, Power Systems and Programming.
  • Excel academically while being actively involved in extra-curricular and/or volunteer activities at school or in the community.
  • Experience with MATLAB, AutoCAD, MicroStation, PLC programming and other real-time controllers an asset.
  • This is a suitable role for a 3rd year Engineering student and a transcript must be submitted.
