Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should exhibit the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research environment
- The candidates should be prepared to be physically located at their manager’s Microsoft worksite for the duration of the internship
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should currently be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, Mathematics, or a related field
- The candidates should be able to to submit a minimum of two reference letters, a cover letter, and any relevant work or research samples
- The candidates should demonstrate proficient analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as strong written and verbal communication skills
- The candidates should have research expertise with AI modeling, which would be a significant advantage
- The candidates should possess deep knowledge of AI model design, architecture, and application and possess proficiency in understanding machine learning concepts
- The candidates should have experience in model training, including continuous pretraining, fine-tuning, RLHF, and benchmarking for specific areas, which is a strong plus
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to put inquiry and theory into practice as Research Interns, collaborating with fellow doctoral candidates and top researchers
- The candidates should be able to learn, network, and contribute to research and development during the 12-week internship, being paired with mentors and engaging with other interns and researchers
- The candidates should be able to design and develop AI-driven infrastructure, implementing prototypes and conducting simulations for testing and validation
- The candidates should be able to conduct thorough research on emerging trends in AI software and hardware infrastructure
- The candidates should be able to work closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, software developers, and data scientists, to integrate ideas with existing and future AI projects
- The candidates should be able to prepare detailed documentation of simulations, methodologies, and findings, and present results and insights to team members and stakeholders
- The candidates should be able to identify challenges and bottlenecks in AI infrastructure and propose innovative solutions to drive innovation and problem-solving efforts
