At Nova Scotia Power, we see the diversity of our team as one of our strengths – and something we continue to focus on and celebrate. Our five-year community investment strategy focuses on supporting programs, organizations and initiatives that promote inclusion, equity, and diversity, helping to remove barriers and advance education and driving awareness in our communities.
There are (10) $1,000 non-renewable awards are available to children/dependents of regular employees or retirees of Nova Scotia Power. These awards are available to students entering any year of a full time post-secondary education program. Recipients may have the opportunity to participate in a 12-week paid internship at Nova Scotia Power. Recipients will be notified to apply for opportunities.
Past recipients are eligible to re-apply each year for up to four (4) years while still enrolled in a college or undergraduate university program.
Eligibility & Selection Criteria
- Applicant must be the child of a regular employee or retiree.
- Applicant must be a Canadian citizen and permanent residents of Nova Scotia.
Recipients are selected on the basis of leadership, service to the community, involvement in extra-curricular activities, and their written essay. Academic standing will be considered as part of the selection process.
This scholarship will not be awarded in conjunction with any other Nova Scotia Power Inc. scholarship and will not be awarded for the pursuit of Graduate studies.
Application Requirements
To qualify please complete the Nova Scotia Power Family Scholarships online application and include the following documents.
- Resume
- High School transcript (Grade 10-12, including fall semester marks) or University transcript (unofficial is acceptable)
- Essay; max 500 words. Tell us your story! This is your opportunity to introduce yourself to the Selection Committee and will help us get to know the person behind the application form.
- TOPIC: “Tell us about your accomplishments, goals, and involvement in your community. Describe a time in your life and/or a way you have contributed to your community that has shaped who you are as a person.”
- Budget (click on the Budget Template to open the document).
Selection Process
A selection committee, made up of Nova Scotia Power Employees, will review the applications and make their decisions based on the following criteria: financial need, leadership and service to the community, involvement in extra-curricular activities and the essay portion of the application form. Academic standing will be considered as part of the selection process. Selected applicants may be invited for an interview.
