Location: Remote (Candidates based in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Nova Scotia or willing to relocate)

Description:

WES is looking for a Policy Analyst Intern to work with the team in the Managing Director’s Office in Toronto. This is a remote position. The Intern will help analyze and interpret data for immigration policy, higher education and/or skills training and workforce development policy. The Intern will also provide advice to senior leadership on important trends and developments, and will support stakeholder engagement planning and preparation to facilitate effective external engagements aligned with organizational policy goals at WES. This is a remote position; candidates preferably based in Ontario, Canada.

Duties included but not limited to:

Policy Analysis
• Analyze and interpret a range of data (including quantitative data) in the policy context and apply interpretations to strategic recommendations.
• Provide analysis and advice to senior leadership; identify trends, developments and opportunities on issues, programs, and policies relevant to WES’ work.
• Monitor research, news, government policies, programs, legislation, and other information relevant to migration to Canada, international students, and skilled immigrant labour market integration.
• Conduct literature reviews and produce in-depth environmental scans and landscape studies.
• Support the development of policy-related materials for a range of audiences: reports, position papers, briefing notes, submissions, talking points, infographics, blogs, and other materials.

External & Stakeholder Engagement
• Identify strategic external engagement opportunities throughout Canada (e.g. consultation opportunities, conferences, seminars, and events) that are aligned with organizational policy goals.
• Provide comprehensive support in planning & preparation for external engagements (e.g. conducting desk research and analysis, producing information notes, developing participant/stakeholder bios, helping to compile event preparation packages for senior leadership).
• Prepare background materials, presentation decks, and speaking points in preparation of external engagements, presenting information in a clear and concise manner for senior leadership to supporting effective participation and decision-making.
The Ideal Candidate will:
• Bring knowledge of relevant policy issues, government structures, labour market conditions, and international relations.
• Have a track record of delivering high-quality, accurate work in a fast-paced environment.
• Have experience with Salesforce; proficiency preferred.
• Have some professional experience focusing on workforce development, immigration, refugee resettlement, economic development, and/or social sector consulting.
• Be flexible and willing to stretch up and down as the role requires.
Requirements:
• Current second-year candidate from a public policy, global affairs, international relations, economics, business, and/or other relevant graduate program.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; able to convey complex information appropriately to stakeholders with different backgrounds and needs.
• Demonstrated ability to monitor and interpret qualitative & quantitative data; experience with Tableau an asset.
• Ability to research, synthesize and integrate disparate pieces of data, analysis, and information; able to break down complex problems into component parts and frame trade-offs in decision-making.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
Working Conditions:
• Remote work with the potential for occasional travel to the WES Toronto office.
• Duration: 3 months, part-time (20 hours/week) with the potential for a contract extension.
