You will join us as an Intern Analyst for the Summer of 2024 in the Legal Department. Candidates in an undergraduate or graduate program that will be returning to school in Fall 2024 are eligible to apply.
Overview Of Legal Department
The Legal Department provides advice and effectively manages legal and regulatory compliance across all aspects of investing and managing CPP Investments’ assets and enterprise activities. We also support our Board of Directors. We deliver advice directly through a strong in-house team and extensive use of specialized external counsel.
Our core objectives are to manage legal and regulatory risk, ensure compliance with the law, maintain strong internal governance, and effectively support CPP Investments’ Board of Directors. We also support reputational risk management and policy advocacy to governments. We accomplish these objectives by providing strategic, practical and commercially balanced advice across the business; effectively identifying and managing legal and compliance risks; ensuring CPP Investments has access to best in class technical and market-specific expertise; and delivering services scaleably and efficiently.
The Legal Department provides support through the following teams:
Legal – provides investment, enterprise, and general support for all our departments.
Compliance – responsible for internal compliance matters as well as regulatory compliance support.
Board Secretariat – responsible for supporting CPP Investments’ Board and its Committees, working closely with the CEO’s office in this regard.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Working with a Managing Director, Legal, and closely and collaboratively with other lawyers and paralegal professions, provide advice, assess legal risk and deliver support across a broad range of compliance, enterprise and investment activities
• Assist on Legal Department projects and gain experience in legal research, drafting, problem solving and communications
• Assist legal professionals in the preparation and review of commercial and transactional contracts
• support coordination and delivery of CPP Investments’ internal legal training program
• General assistance on other legal matters as they arise
Qualifications
Position Requirements
• Students wishing to apply must be Indigenous/Aboriginal Peoples of Canada (Status Indian, Non-Status Indian, Inuit or Métis) and enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
• The ideal candidate will be graduating in December 2024 (or later) and is working towards a degree in Law
• Interest in Capital Markets & Investment Management
• Good written and verbal communication skills and an interest in working in a dynamic collaborative environment.
• Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
• Candidates must exemplify CPP Investments’ guiding principles of high performance, integrity and partnership.
