Electrical/Controls Engineer Co-Op/Intern
An Electrical/Controls Engineer Co-Op/Intern at Mosaic will be assigned routine electrical & controls engineering-related duties including projects and maintenance design work.
What will you do?
Day to day duties could include:
• Electrical power system reliability improvement projects.
• Participation in root cause failure analysis and execution of associated corrective actions.
• Troubleshooting of electrical power systems related issues that may arise, such as power outages, electrical faults, and equipment failures.
• Work on electrical power system relay network expansion and power system reliability improvement projects, including power system model review.
• Analysis of existing electrical preventative maintenance plans, and development and implementation of new plans.
• Participation in inspection and maintenance of industrial electrical equipment including medium voltage switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, starters, variable frequency drives, and various digital protective devices and relays.
• Participation in inspection and maintenance of industrial control system equipment including distributed control systems and programmable logic controllers.
• Communicate with various levels of personnel throughout the organization, including management, engineers (of various disciplines), journeyman tradespersons, etc.
• Participation in team meetings and meetings specific to the project assignment.
• Adhering to Mosaic’s mission, guiding principles and priorities, and key competencies.
• Day-to-day work assignments could include fieldwork, e.g., data analysis, data collection, report writing, and database maintenance.
• Miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
What do you need for this role?
• Second year or higher pursuing a bachelor’s degree in electrical or instrumentation engineering.
• Basic knowledge of electrical theory including AC distribution and transformation, AC/DC motor control, power/analog/digital electronics and electromagnetic properties is required.
• Basic knowledge of programmable logic controllers and distributed control systems is an asset.
• Basic computer skills required, and some computer programming experience preferred.
• 72% Percentage or higher.
• Ability to function in an industrial facility.
• 1-2 years of experience volunteering, working with student/school organizations, or work is preferred.
• Previous internship or co-op experience is preferred.
• Reliable transportation – You will need to be able to travel to and from the site.
• Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and implement learned process, procedures, or software.
• Strong verbal, written and listening communication skills, including presentation skills.
• Ability to effectively work with employees at all levels within the organization and external customers, suppliers, and vendors.
• Maintain a clean work environment and comply with all safety and environmental policies.
• Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills.
